About Me

In 2011 I told a friend I would train for a half marathon alongside her. Neither of us was a runner and we decided the shared suffering would keep us accountable and get us both to the starting line. Commmitted to the plan I laced up my first pair of ill-fitting running shoes, ran 1.75 miles on a treadmill, and promptly decided the people who did this for fun were out of their minds. Yes, I’d made the commitment to my friend and I would see the training through, but after one training run I swore this would be my first and last race.

Needless to say that is not quite what happened. My friend and I both made it to that half marathon, we ran, and I fell in love with running. I’ve since run more half marathons than I can remember, as well as seven marathons, and I’ve grown to love this sport, the practice of running, more every year.

Along the way I learned plenty of lessons, many of them hard, and some of them the hard way. Whether I DNF, PR, or experience something in between, I keep signing up for races and coming back for more. I’ve also put that experience to good use. Along with my friends and business partners Andrew and Matt, I help coach runners to their own goals and the three of us have had some good success doing it. Our runners have run distances they were not sure they could run; they have set PR’s, tackled World Marathon Majors, and qualified for Boston. This site is a labor of love. I have been coaching people in one form or another for almost 25 years and in my own experience as a runner I’ve explored and fine-tuned skills needed to pursue big bad audacious running goals. My writings are not to show I’ve got it all figured out; really they are the work of a guy continuing to try to refine and better understand the work you need to do to chase a goal that excites you and scares you all at the same time.
